NARRATIVE VOICE

Narration of events is a very vital part of the story. It is necessary in order to make the readers understand what is happening and the circumstances in a certain scene or setting. The one who does the narration is referred to as the narrator or “author’s persona.”

There are several factors to consider when deciding on the appropriate persona to apply in your story. First of all, freelance ghostwriters have to consider the kind of story that you are attempting to impart. Secondly, novel ghostwriters have to decide on the kind of atmosphere to employ that will best suit your story.

The readers take the narrator’s persona from the choice of words and incidents he expresses. Other aspects that indicate the narrator’s persona are his attitude and character. The point of view of the story plays an important role.

By using the first – person point of view in the story, the readers only learn of the narrator’s opinions, sentiments and responses to events. This is why it is usually considered as very one – sided. The objective of writers using the first – person point of view is to simply tell the readers of the speech and actions of the characters, without making any remarks.

Here is a list of approaches on how to use the first – person point of view:

  • There are several narrators which means several characters narrate as first – person
  • Narrator looks back on past events seemingly like a separated memoir
  • The narrator is an observer and is not a significant part of the main story
  • Narrator put pen to paper of events as they happen such as a letter or diary
  • Narrator relates the story as a recollection. Or narrator presents the story as thoughts and feelings of the character as they occur

By using the first – person point of view, novelists and freelance writing services can effectively present the personality and attitude of the character narrating the story through the way he or she depicts the novel's events.

The second – person point of view is distinguished by the use of the pronoun “you.” This however is rarely used in novels and very few have used it successfully.

Just as the fist – person point of view, there is some sort of bias when using the third – person point of view. However this is most preferred by readers because it lets them know to associate with. In this point of view, the persona depends on a single character who witnesses the events in the story. Experienced fiction ghostwriters may account the thoughts and emotions of the character and you can also depict events happening outside, using of course, the choice of words that fits the character used.

The purpose of using the third – person point of view is that the author is simply able to narrate what the characters say and do without his emotions or inclusion of his personal opinions, and without any regards of the characters’ thoughts and sentiments. This is a very powerful mode since there is no hint of the narrator’s persona and the readers are provoked to provide the emotion instead. This is the persona applied in the phenomenal Icelanders’ sagas which inspired several other hard – edged writers.

If freelance writers for hire wish to develop the author’s persona still using the third – person point of view, then the writers can use omniscience.

  1. The persona largely depends on whose point of view the narration is coming from. It is important that in a certain scene involving two or more characters you only use the point of view of one character all throughout the scene. This is because every character exhibits a persona different persona. Each character possesses a unique language, a unique set of values, and a unique set of concerns. Switching to the point of view of one character to another in one scene might end up confusing the readers.  Professional novel writing services can however, switch to another character’s point of view, only after the freelance fiction writer has moved on to another scene.
  2. The dialogue, thoughts and actions of the characters should deliver for most part of the information that the readers need to know. The author can stay in the background or he can supplement information but only once in a while.
  3. By using the third alternative, fiction writers develop a persona with an evident outlook towards the characters and events of the story. This persona also makes frequent remarks on them. The narrator may be a character in the story but he is insignificant in the main events. However, often he is given a name. In other cases, the narrator could also take the form of someone simply recounting the stories of someone else regarding events concerning other people. Thus this persona is not always reliable. It is possible that he is only lying and misinterpreting events. Some writers use this persona to intentionally give readers the benefit of the doubt.
